The part-time DPhil programme follows on from the taught MSc course in Evidence-Based Health Care (EBHC) that has been available for the past nine years. The DPhil programme is overseen by the University’s Continuing Education Board, and admission is through the Department of Continuing Education (Cont Ed).
All graduate students must apply also for membership of a college. Most choose to become members of Kellogg College, which caters particularly for part-time mature students and is closely associated with the Centre for Evidence-Based medicine and the Department of Continuing Education.
Supervision is arranged to suit the DPhil topic and may involve staff from within the Medical Sciences Division as well as co-supervision with members of the Evidence-Based network.
The part-time DPhil in EBHC is part of the Oxford Postgraduate Programme in Evidence-Based Health Care, and jointly run with the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences). The programme also works closely with the Centres of Evidence-Based Nursing, Evidence-Based Mental Health, and Evidence-Based Dentistry.
The part-time DPhil Programme considers applications from those who have already been awarded the MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care. Applications may also be considered from students with a Master’s in a related subject. There are three admission deadlines for applicants prior to October intake. These are usually November, January and May. More details can be found at the Department of Continuing Education website.
