Looking for lower value and overuse

September 15, 2014

On Saturday the 13th of September I gave a talk at the Value in Healthcare forum, ran by Sir Muir Gray, on looking for value and overuse.

In the modern healthcare system many tests and procedures are proving to be too costly and ineffectiveScreenshot 2014-09-15 11.27.13:

The three areas where I perceive lower value and overuse can be found are failure to adequately prevent disease in the first place – very costly;  overuse, misuse or underuse of clinical care; and operational  failures, which includes all sorts of inadequate business processes.

One of the major issues I often observe in lower value healthcare decisions, and I can’t put it any better than Forest Gump’s words is: ‘If you don’t know where you are going, then you probably won’t end up there.’
